This workshop is part of the Melbourne Australian Blacksmithing Festival 2019
This course is designed especially for women to experience the art of blacksmithing for the first time. No previous experience required. The one-day program will provide an overview of the practice—primary tools used, safety precautions, creative possibilities and most importantly a hands-on practical exercise.
Participants will be taught how to light and manage a coke fired forge and will be introduced to some of the fundamental techniques (drawing out, bending, twisting). Learning project is designed to enable everyone to take home a completed hand-forged piece at the end of the day! The course is limited to nine persons.

This class will be part of instructors retreat at North House Folk School in Grand Marais, MN.
We will focus on producing bottle openers, similar to the one pictured with some space for artistic freedom. Over three hours we will punch, drift and shape the mild steel into a useful tool. If we have time we will also put finish on them in class (if not we will go over what to do at home).
Plan to put them to use at 5:30pm when we are done. Beverages will be provided by the instructor.
